Tiren wins Absa Bank golf tournament at Eldoret Golf Club.

Kristian Tiren emerged the overall winner of the Absa Bank Golf Tournament played at Eldoret Golf Club on Saturday after returning an impressive 41 Stableford points.

Playing off handicap 17, Tiren produced a strong performance to claim the title in a competitive tournament that attracted golfers seeking top honours.

Tiren said the competition was particularly intense, revealing that players in his flight had even placed friendly bets among themselves, adding to the excitement of the contest.
He started strongly on the first nine, recording a bogey, par, birdie and a string of pars.

On the second nine, he opened with a par before registering a bogey, birdie and double bogey.

Tiren attributed the challenging conditions on the back nine to rising temperatures and fatigue, which made it difficult to maintain his momentum.

He also noted that the fast greens and intimidating pin positions tested the players’ skills throughout the competition.

Ken Serem, playing off handicap zero, finished second with 39 points, while Wilson Kwambai, handicap 13, settled for third place with 37 points.

Karl Fernandes and Abel Sawe won the first-nine and second-nine categories with 23 and 19 points, respectively.

Victor Kwambai and Francisca Korir won the men’s and ladies’ nearest-to-the-pin awards, respectively, while Serem and Susan Bett claimed the men’s and ladies’ longest-drive titles.

Meanwhile, Absa Bank Director of Personal and Private Banking Moses Muthui said the bank was committed to working with the North Rift region, citing its economic and tourism potential.

Muthui noted that Eldoret city was increasingly positioning itself as a destination for health and sports tourism, presenting opportunities for businesses to invest in and support the region.

“After seeing your vision of the club, count us as your partner. Also, next year we will sponsor a golf tournament here,” said Muthui.

His remarks offered a boost to the club’s ambitions and pointed to continued corporate support for golf and sports tourism in the region.
