CHRP exams attract over 2,000 HR professionals nationwide
Aspiring and practising human resource professionals sitting for the Certified Human Resource Professionals examinations.
More than 2,000 aspiring and practising human resource professionals have begun sitting the Certified Human Resource Professionals (CHRP) examinations in what has become the largest assessment exercise ever conducted by the Human Resource Management Professionals Examinations Board (HRMPEB).
The examinations, which kicked off on Wednesday, will run until August 12 across 22 examination centres in Kenya and Rwanda, underscoring the growing demand for professional certification in the human resource sector.
According to HRMPEB Chief Executive Officer Margaret Nguu, a total of 2,078 candidates registered for this year’s CHRP, Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) and certificate examinations, marking a record high for the board.
“The board has witnessed exponential growth in candidate registrations, with this year’s examinations attracting the highest number of candidates since the board was established,” she said.
The examination centres are spread across major towns including Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Thika, Kisumu, Eldoret, Kakamega, Nyeri, Nanyuki and Bomet, with Rwanda also hosting candidates.
Nguu attributed the increasing uptake of the CHRP qualification to its growing recognition among employers and public institutions as a key benchmark for professionalism in human resource management.
She noted that the qualification remains a critical pathway for HR practitioners seeking registration with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM), enabling them to qualify for gazettement and professional practice.
The certification has also become increasingly valuable in Kenya’s competitive labour market, where employers continue to place greater emphasis on professional qualifications during recruitment, promotions and job grading.
The CEO further credited the board’s digital student portal, introduced in late 2023, for simplifying course registration and examination booking, making the certification process more accessible to learners across the country.
She said the online platform has significantly improved service delivery by allowing students to register, manage their academic records and book examinations without visiting HRMPEB offices.
The board is mandated to develop curricula, examine and certify professionals in human resource management, with the growing number of candidates reflecting increased interest in formal professional training.
Industry observers say the rising demand for CHRP certification signals the increasing importance organisations are placing on professional HR practice as businesses seek to strengthen governance, talent management and compliance with evolving workplace standards.
