State House Leaks: How Gachagua’s Moles Are Embarrassing President Ruto
Concern is growing inside State House over persistent leaks that have seen former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua frequently pre-empt official government announcements, in what insiders now describe as a well-orchestrated operation by loyal moles still embedded within the presidency.
According to a report by The Standard, Gachagua has in recent months managed to predict President William Ruto’s national addresses, leak details regarding long-term policy targets, and counter specific executive messaging on public projects and security operations, leaving the President’s communication team scrambling.
The former DP, who was impeached in October 2024, appears to have access to highly classified information, including draft speeches, cabinet resolutions and security briefings, which he then reveals during his public rallies and media interviews hours or even days before State House makes them official.
Sources close to the presidency say the pattern has become too consistent to be coincidental, pointing to a network of sympathizers and former staffers who remained loyal to Gachagua after his ouster and who continue to feed him sensitive information.
In several instances, Gachagua has gone on record to announce what President Ruto intends to say in his upcoming address, including details on new appointments, economic interventions and his long-term vision blueprint, believed to be Vision 2063. He has also been quick to counter executive messaging, framing government projects as failed or driven by corruption, thereby blunting the impact of official communication.
The leaks have reportedly embarrassed President Ruto, who has been forced to alter his speeches at the last minute or defend policies that have already been discredited by his former deputy in the public court.
Political analysts say the development has exposed deep cracks within Kenya Kwanza and raised questions about the loyalty and vetting of staff at the highest office in the land. They argue that Gachagua is using the leaks as a political weapon to portray himself as an insider who knows the inner workings of government and to remain politically relevant ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“The most dangerous opposition is the one from within. If Gachagua is getting briefs from State House, it means the President’s inner circle is compromised,” a former State House operative told The Standard.
State House is said to have launched an internal audit to identify and flush out the moles, including reviewing access to confidential documents and restricting circulation of draft speeches to a small circle.
Neither State House nor Gachagua’s office has officially commented on the claims, but allies of the former DP have dismissed the mole narrative as an attempt to divert attention from the government’s failures.
Gachagua himself has previously claimed he has his own intelligence system and that Kenyans on the ground inform him of everything happening in government.
