Mutai triumphs at Britam Golf Day in Eldoret city
Gorrety Mutai emerged the overall winner of the Britam Golf Day after returning an impressive 43 Stableford points at the par-71 Eldoret Golf Club on Saturday.
Playing off handicap 20, Mutai beat a field of 120 golfers drawn from Eldoret, Nandi, Nakuru, Kakamega, Limuru, Sigona, Golf Park, Windsor, Kericho, Njoro, Karen and Machakos clubs.
Mutai attributed her victory to a competitive four-ball that featured J.K. Serem (Eldoret), Hirom Ikhokoro (Kakamega) and Jacky Gitonga (Nakuru).
“We had match play within our flight, which really pushed me to play better,” she said.
She also praised the excellent condition of the course, commending the greenkeeping team for preparing quality playing fairways and greens.
“This win has motivated me a lot and I hope to continue performing well in upcoming tournaments. I also thank my husband for his moral support and my playing partner, even though we were not in the same flight today,” she added.
Mutai’s round included five pars on the outward nine at holes one, four, seven, eight and nine. Despite carding a six at the 10th hole, she recovered strongly by finishing with pars from the 14th through to the 18th hole.
