Service Above Self: Jamia Mosque Secretary General Earns National Recognition

Jamia Mosque Secretary General has been recognized nationally for his outstanding service to the community, a distinction he attributes to teamwork, dedication, and faith-driven leadership.

Speaking at Jamia Mosque on Tuesday, the Secretary General, Sheikh Abdulbari Hamid reflected on his journey of service and the collective effort behind the mosque’s growth. He described the recognition as an honour not just for him, but for the entire Jamia fraternity, noting that the mosque’s success is built on unity and commitment to serve.

“This recognition is not about me alone, it is about the people I work with, the elders who built this institution, and those who continue to serve selflessly,” he said.

He paid tribute to the mosque’s founders led by Sheikh Ghulam Saleh Shah, who established Jamia Mosque during colonial times despite opposition from the British authorities. The Secretary General said their foresight and resilience laid the foundation for an institution that continues to shape the spiritual and social fabric of the nation.

He also highlighted Jamia’s wide reaching programs in education, health, and social welfare, saying the mosque’s work extends far beyond religious obligations.

“We are a religious organization, but we are also deeply involved in education and medical outreach. Whenever the country faces challenges, droughts, health crises ,we mobilize to assist,” he said.

During his remarks, he commended his team for their dedication in implementing the mosque’s programs and ensuring Jamia remains a hub of community service.

“My team here is the reason behind our success. From our media unit at Horizon TV to our finance and outreach departments, everyone plays a crucial role,” he said, noting that the recognition he received reflects their collective commitment.

The Secretary General also reaffirmed Jamia’s commitment to fostering interfaith understanding and inclusivity, emphasizing that service to humanity transcends religious boundaries.

“This recognition is a reminder that leadership is about humility and service. When you serve people sincerely, it comes back in ways you don’t expect,” he said.
