Safaricom Retains Top Employer Title for Fifth Straight Year, Ranked Kenya’s Best Workplace for 2026
Safaricom has once again been named Kenya’s No. 1 Employer and a Top Employer in both Kenya and Africa for 2026, extending its streak to five consecutive years of certification by the Top Employers Institute.
The recognition by the global authority on workplace excellence underscores Safaricom’s sustained performance in people practices that support its transformation into a purpose-led technology company. The certification evaluates organisations across six critical areas: people strategy, work environment, talent acquisition, learning and development, diversity, equity and inclusion, and employee wellbeing.
Safaricom Group CEO Peter Ndegwa said the award reflects the company’s long-term commitment to investing in its workforce as a key driver of innovation and growth. “Empowered teams enable us to innovate responsibly, serve customers better, and bring our vision of becoming Africa’s leading purpose-led technology company to life,” he said.
In 2025, the company refreshed its employer value proposition to better align employee roles with business outcomes, support the acquisition of future-ready skills, and provide clear career progression pathways. This approach is reinforced by an enabling workplace culture and a range of benefits, including an employee mortgage scheme, comprehensive medical cover, and access to on-site clinics and gyms, aimed at promoting financial security as well as physical and mental wellbeing.
Safaricom’s people-focused approach has also earned it broader recognition. In December 2025, the company won the Inclusive Employment & Workplace Award at the Gender Equality and Disability Inclusion Awards, highlighting progress in increasing women’s representation in leadership, achieving 3.9 per cent representation of persons with disabilities across its workforce, and improving accessibility across its products, services and workplaces.
Top Employers Institute CEO Adrian Seligman said the certification demonstrates Safaricom’s strong alignment between people strategy and organisational goals. “Their commitment to continuous improvement and building an outstanding workplace shows how effective people practices can drive sustained business performance,” he said.
In 2025, the Top Employers Programme certified nearly 2,500 organisations across 131 countries and regions, representing more than 14 million employees worldwide.
