Nigerian Footballer Abubakar Lawal Dies After Tragic Fall from Shopping Mall Balcony in Uganda
Nigerian footballer Abubakar Lawal, a striker for Uganda’s Vipers SC, has tragically passed away after falling from the third-floor balcony of a shopping mall in Kampala.
Lawal was reportedly visiting a Tanzanian friend in one of the residential apartments within the mall when the fatal incident occurred.
According to the friend, she had left him alone shortly before the fall.Ugandan authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, with police reviewing CCTV footage and conducting interrogations to establish the exact details of what transpired.
“Authorities are retrieving CCTV footage and conducting thorough interrogations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident,” police said in a statement.
Vipers SC confirmed the heartbreaking news, mourning the loss of their 29-year-old forward and extending their condolences to his family, friends, and fans.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden and untimely passing of our beloved player, Abubakar Lawal, who left us this morning,” the club said.“Our thoughts and prayers are with Lawal’s family, club fans, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time,” it added.
Lawal joined Vipers SC in July 2022 after a two-year stint with Rwanda’s AS Kigali. His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the football community, with tributes pouring in from teammates, fans, and officials.
