Kip Keino Classic launched as Nairobi prepares for April 24 Continental Tour meet
7th edition Absa Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour Gold was officially launched on today, setting the stage for another high-profile night of athletics on April 24.
Organisers used the launch to reaffirm the event’s growing stature on the global circuit, while highlighting the continued support of Absa Bank, which has served as the title sponsor since the inaugural edition. The long-standing partnership has played a key role in sustaining the meet and enhancing its appeal to elite athletes from across the world.
Event officials also acknowledged the contribution of the Stockholm Environment Institute, whose involvement will focus on promoting sustainability through air quality monitoring at key venues. The initiative is part of broader efforts to align the competition with environmentally responsible practices.
Beyond the competition itself, organisers noted that such partnerships have extended benefits to athletes and surrounding communities through programmes centred on financial literacy, education and environmental awareness.
The one-day meet, part of the elite World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series, is expected to once again attract top-tier talent and deliver fast times on the track. Preparations are already underway, including final touches on a newly remarked surface aimed at meeting international standards.
Fans attending the event can look forward to an evening spectacle, with organisers promising a blend of athletics and entertainment, including the use of wavelight technology and a fireworks display. The meet is scheduled to run into the night, culminating in a prime-time programme from 8pm.
With just weeks to go, anticipation is building for what has become one of the continent’s premier athletics events.
