Kenya’s Annita Mwagiru Joins Influential Voices at PMI Global Summit Africa 2025
Renowned Kenyan project management expert Annita Mwagiru has been confirmed as one of the speakers at the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Global Summit Series Africa 2025, scheduled to take place from 19 to 21 August at the Kigali Convention Centre, Rwanda.
Mwagiru, who played a key advisory role in developing the Kenya AI Strategy 2025–2030, will join a diverse lineup of high-level professionals, innovators, policymakers, and thought leaders to discuss Africa’s development priorities through the lens of effective project execution.
Currently serving as Project Management Officer at the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data, Mwagiru brings to the table expertise on aligning innovation and technology with local realities to drive inclusive growth.
The summit comes at a pivotal moment for Africa, as countries across the continent grapple with urgent challenges including infrastructure deficits, climate change, digital transformation, and youth unemployment.
According to George Asamani, Managing Director of PMI Sub-Saharan Africa, “The continent needs up to $170 billion annually to close its infrastructure gap, with a financing shortfall of over $100 billion. With so much at stake, project management is no longer optional it is central to delivery and impact.”
Under the theme of “Purposeful Execution”, the Global Summit aims to shift how success in projects is defined beyond budgets and timelines to how well they contribute to resilience, sustainability, and social value. It will convene leaders from government, private sector, civil society, and creative industries to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
“Africa must shape its digital future through collaboration and homegrown solutions,” said Mwagiru. “While global models offer lessons, we must prioritize context-specific, African-led innovation. Project management is key to responsibly deploying emerging technologies.”
Among the other headline speakers are Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank, who will deliver a special address, as well as prominent figures such as Olubankole Wellington (Banky W), Guinness World Record holder Tunde Onakoya, and key players from organizations like Zipline Rwanda, Norrsken East Africa, and the Zambian Presidential Delivery Unit.
Academic institutions and PMI Chapter leaders from across the continent will also contribute, emphasizing both top-down and grassroots approaches to transforming Africa’s project economy.
