Kenyan Content Creator Claims She Was Left With Sh10,000 Bill After Rooftop Date Gone Wrong
A Kenyan social media personality has sparked widespread discussion online after sharing an account of an alleged dating experience that left her footing a hefty restaurant bill after her companion reportedly disappeared midway through their outing.
Juliette Awata, a Facebook user known among her followers for sharing dating stories and lifestyle content, took to social media to narrate what she described as an embarrassing and unexpected experience during a Sunday evening meet-up in Nairobi.
According to Awata, the encounter began after a man who had been regularly interacting with her content through social media direct messages invited her out for drinks at a rooftop establishment located at Sarit Centre.
Awata said the two had been engaging in friendly and flirtatious conversations online for some time. Before agreeing to the invitation, she claims she reviewed the man’s social media profile and found what appeared to be a genuine account featuring personal photographs and interactions with friends.
Believing the invitation was harmless and looking for a way to break the boredom of spending the evening at home, she accepted.
Upon arriving at the venue later that evening, Awata said she found the man seated alone. She recalled that he welcomed her warmly, ordered a cocktail and cheese fries, and spent time complimenting her as they got to know each other in person.
The evening appeared to be progressing smoothly until the man reportedly received a phone call.
According to Awata, he excused himself from the table, explaining that he needed to handle something over the phone because loud music and a football match were making it difficult to hear.
What initially seemed like a routine interruption soon turned into a troubling situation.
As time passed, Awata said she became concerned after noticing that her companion had not returned. Attempts to contact him allegedly went unanswered. When she later inquired with staff about settling the bill, she claims she was shocked to learn that neither her date’s drinks nor any other charges had been paid.
The situation reportedly became even more uncomfortable when restaurant staff temporarily held her as they sought clarification regarding the missing customer.
Awata alleges that the total bill amounted to approximately Sh10,000, despite her personal order costing around Sh1,550.
Speaking through her Facebook post, she expressed disbelief that someone she had trusted could leave her in such circumstances.
“I honestly never imagined something like this would happen to me,” she wrote, adding that she has previously formed genuine friendships through social media interactions.
The online personality further alleged that after she warned the man she would expose him publicly unless he reimbursed her, he deleted his social media account.
Awata identified the individual as Allan Blessed Ochieng and appealed to members of the public who might know him to come forward.

The story quickly attracted reactions from social media users, many sharing similar experiences involving online dating and cautioning others about meeting internet acquaintances without taking additional precautions.
Others sympathized with Awata, arguing that trust built through months of online interactions can sometimes create a false sense of security.
As discussions continue across social media platforms, the incident has reignited conversations about safety, accountability, and financial responsibility during first dates arranged through online interactions.
The allegations made by Awata have not been independently verified, and the individual she identified had not publicly responded to the claims at the time of publication.
