Webuye Youths Receive KSh 5 Million Grant for Skills Training in KCB Foundation Initiative

Kenya Commercial Bank ( KCB) Foundation and Webuye East Constituency have partnered to roll out a KSh. 5 million technical skills training and job creation programme with the aim to combat youth unemployment.

The initiative, part of KCB Foundation’s 2Jiajiri programme, aims to equip 100 young people with technical and vocational skills to enhance employability and promote micro-enterprise development.

The selected youth will undergo National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) certified training at Matili Technical Training Institute, followed by specialized business development training to support the establishment of micro-enterprises.

The programme will be implemented in collaboration with the Webuye East National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), marking a significant step toward economic self-reliance and prosperity in the region.Empowering Young Women and Driving Economic Growth.

The initiative is designed with inclusivity in mind, targeting 70 percent female participation to empower young women and highlight their vital role in economic and social transformation.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy Chief of Party at KCB Foundation Bernard Barasa, emphasized the programme’s impact that equips young people with technical skills that have a high market demand and can transform their livelihoods.

“Through this initiative, we aim to drive job creation and accelerate the growth of micro-enterprises at the grassroots level,” he said.

Making his remarks Webuye East Memver if Parliament ( MP) Martin Wanyonyi, hailed the programme as a game-changer for youth employment.

“Our focus is to create sustainable opportunities for young people. This partnership with KCB Foundation will play a crucial role in reducing youth unemployment and driving economic growth in Webuye East,” he stated.

Additionally,he said that the initiative aim to transforming Lives through Skills and Enterprise Development, the six-month training programme consists of three months of classroom instruction and three months of industrial attachment, designed to bridge the skills gap and prepare youth for employment.

Those keen on entrepreneurship will receive comprehensive business support, including mentorship, startup toolkits, and financing from KCB Bank.

Since its inception in 2016, KCB Foundation’s 2Jiajiri programme has:

Created over 150,000 jobs,Trained 35,195 youth in technical skills, Provided KSh. 267 million in loans to support youth-led enterprises, Distributed 2,225 startup toolkits, Mentored over 10,000 youth through business development officers.

This initiative aligns with Young Africa Works (YAW), a KCB Foundation-Mastercard Foundation partnership, which collaborates with county and national governments to equip Kenyan youth with job-ready skills and economic opportunities.

With ongoing investments in youth training and enterprise development, KCB Foundation continues to drive economic transformation and unlock opportunities for Kenya’s young workforce.
