Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo Dies in Naivasha Road Crash
Former Lugari Member of Parliament and ex–Minister for Rural Development Cyrus Jirongo died early Saturday after a road crash involving his car and a passenger bus along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway in Nakuru County, Dec. 13, 2025.
Jirongo, 64, was driving himself toward Nairobi when his vehicle collided head-on with an oncoming bus at Karai area at about 3 a.m., according to police. Rift Valley Traffic Enforcement Officer Sarah Chumo said Jirongo failed to keep to his lane before the crash.
In a police report, officers said Jirongo was alone in his Mercedes-Benz when it struck a Climax company bus. “As a result of the accident, the driver … sustained serious head injuries and died on the spot,” the report stated.
Witnesses and police said Jirongo’s car was extensively damaged. Friends and relatives who rushed to the scene were directed to a local mortuary, where his body was taken before plans were made to move it to Nairobi for further procedures.
Police said investigations into the crash are ongoing.
