Clinical Officers Call Off Strike After Successful Talks with Health Ministry

Clinical officers across the country have officially called off their strike following successful negotiations with the Ministry of Health, marking a crucial breakthrough in efforts to strengthen Kenya’s healthcare system.

Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Dr Deborah Barasa announced the resolution today, affirming the government’s recognition of the vital role clinical officers play in safeguarding the health of Kenyans.

The CS acknowledged concerns raised by the healthcare workers and reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to addressing them while ensuring the continuous provision of essential medical services.

“For weeks, we have engaged in extensive and progressive consultations with all relevant stakeholders to find an amicable resolution to the issues at hand. I am pleased to announce that the clinical officers’ strike has been called off following productive discussions between the Ministry and the leadership of the clinical workers’ caucus,” the CS stated.

The resolution is seen as a significant step toward reinforcing Kenya’s healthcare infrastructure through dialogue and collaboration.

The Ministry emphasized that all healthcare workers, including clinical officers, will play an integral role in shaping policies that improve working conditions, enhance service delivery, and contribute to the realization of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) under Taifa Care.

The CS expressed gratitude to the clinical officers for agreeing to resume duty immediately and encouraged them to continue working towards a resilient, patient-centered healthcare system.

“The government remains committed to ensuring that quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare reaches all Kenyans, in line with our pledge to leave no one behind,” the CS reaffirmed.

The Ministry assured the public that it remains open to constructive engagement with healthcare workers to address challenges and implement sustainable solutions in the health sector.
