All-Country CorpsAfrica Conference 2025 Kicks Off in Nairobi with Focus on Youth-Led Development

The All-Country  CorpsAfrica Conference 2025 officially opened in Nairobi, bringing together youth volunteers and leaders from across the African continent to exchange ideas and strategies for community-led development under the theme “Leading with Ubuntu: African Youth Transforming the Continent.”

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs and Sports, Salim Mvurya, lauded CoAfrica for organizing the conference and affirmed the Kenyan government’s support for youth-centered initiatives.

“This gathering demonstrates that Africa’s youth are not just the future  they are the present. Their agency must be recognized, supported, and institutionalized,” he said.

Mvurya emphasized the need to mainstream youth participation in national development, citing ongoing programs like the Kenya Youth Empowerment and Opportunities Project, the National Volunteer Program, and various ICT hubs aimed at promoting innovation and digital skills. He highlighted the importance of recognizing volunteerism within national labor frameworks and pledged to finalize the National Voluntarism Policy to validate and reward youth civic service.

The Cabinet Secretary urged young people to take advantage of policy and institutional opportunities, be proactive, and align with continental frameworks such as the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the Africa Continental Free Trade Area. He further called for a shift from donor dependency to community-driven philanthropy and investment in youth programs.

Representatives from multiple ministries and regional bodies attended, demonstrating strong government commitment to youth empowerment.

“We are not only here to open a conference. We are here to build a coalition that empowers youth through innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership,” Mvurya said,as he encourage participants to act as catalysts of change across Africa.
