TNH Secures ISO Certifications in Environmental and Workplace Safety Standards

Nairobi, February 19, 2026 — The Nairobi Hospital ( TNH) has earned two globally recognized certifications in environmental management and workplace safety, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable, high-quality healthcare delivery.

The hospital was awarded the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System (EMS) recertification for the sixth consecutive cycle and, for the first time, the ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) certification. The recognitions were issued by the Kenya Bureau of Standards following a rigorous audit process.

The dual certification underscores the institution’s sustained adoption of environmentally responsible practices and structured safety frameworks designed to protect staff, patients, and the broader community.

Speaking during the award ceremony, KEBS Managing Director Esther Ngari noted that attaining ISO 45001 demonstrates deliberate and proactive protection of employee wellbeing, while maintaining ISO 14001 across six certification cycles shows environmental stewardship is firmly embedded in the hospital’s operations rather than treated as a one-time initiative.

The hospital has continued to build a culture of continuous quality improvement anchored on standards developed by the International Organization for Standardization. In addition to the two certifications, it also maintains ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management and ISO 22000:2018 for Food Safety Management. Its laboratory is accredited to ISO 15189:2022, and the institution is pursuing accreditation from Joint Commission International as part of efforts to align with global healthcare benchmarks.

Chief Executive Officer Felix Osano described the milestone as part of an ongoing journey rather than a final destination.

“Environmental sustainability and safety benchmarks are crucial aspects in today’s dynamic healthcare environment. We remain committed to continuously elevating our standards to better serve society and create a safe environment for current and future generations,” said Osano.

KEBS also announced plans to establish a dedicated “green channel” for the hospital to enable faster turnaround times and priority technical support, including calibration services.

The certifications followed an extensive evaluation process conducted between September and October 2025, involving leadership engagement, staff training, systems gap analysis, policy development, internal audits, and two-stage external audits.

The achievement further strengthens the hospital’s position as a leading healthcare provider focused on patient safety, environmental sustainability, and operational efficiency, while advancing risk-based occupational health systems and enhanced food safety standards.

As it marks the milestone, the hospital reiterated that quality improvement remains a continuous journey toward excellence in healthcare delivery in Kenya and beyond.
