Fuel Prices Drop Slightly as EPRA Announces New Pump Rates for January–February 2026

Nairobi, January 15, 2026- Motorists will enjoy a modest relief at the pump after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced a reduction in fuel prices for the period running from January 15 to February 14, 2026.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, EPRA said the maximum retail prices of Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene have been revised downwards by KSh2.00 per litre, KSh1.00 per litre and KSh1.00 per litre respectively, in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Act, 2019 and Legal Notice No. 192 of 2022.

The regulator said the new prices were arrived at after reviewing changes in international oil prices, landed costs and the exchange rate, as well as statutory taxes and levies.

“The prices are inclusive of the 16 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) as provided under the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and the revised excise duty rates adjusted for inflation,” EPRA said.

Landed Costs Decline

According to EPRA, the average landed cost of imported petroleum products declined in December 2025, contributing to the price adjustments.

The landed cost of  Super Petrol fell slightly by 0.10 per cent from US$592.84 per cubic metre in November 2025 to US$592.24 in December 2025.

Diesel recorded a larger drop of 4.20 per cent, declining from US$654.24 to US$626.75 per cubic metre, while Kerosene saw the steepest decrease of 8.92 per cent, falling from US$667.05 to US$607.55 per cubic metre over the same period.

EPRA noted that Kenya imports all its petroleum products in refined form and that prices are benchmarked against international market trends.

International Prices and Exchange Rate Still Key

The authority said petroleum products are traded internationally in United States dollars, making local prices sensitive to both global oil market movements and the USD–Kenya shilling exchange rate, which is applied when computing pump prices.

EPRA publishes monthly data tracking the trends in international petroleum prices and exchange rates, which are factored into the final pump price calculation.

The new prices will remain in force until February 14, 2026, after which EPRA will announce another review.
