Nairobi, Thursday 11,2025-Wiper Party Leader Dr Kalonzo Musyoka has accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of attempting to auction and recolonise the country through what he termed illegal privatisation, mismanagement of public assets and the erosion of democratic institutions.
Delivering the United Opposition’s pre-Jamhuri Day address at DAP-Kenya headquarters in Nairobi, Dr Musyoka said the 62nd anniversary of independence must remind Kenyans of the sacrifices of national heroes and the responsibility to defend the country’s sovereignty.
“Independence was never a gift. It was earned through blood, sweat and relentless courage,” Dr Musyoka said, invoking the struggles of the Kapenguria Six, Dedan Kimathi, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Pio Gama Pinto, Wambui Otieno, JM Kariuki, Koitalel arap Samoei and Mekatilili wa Menza.
He warned that their legacy was being undermined by what he called internal neocolonialism.
Dr Musyoka accused the government of making unilateral decisions on key national assets, saying strategic institutions such as Safaricom, Kenya Pipeline Company, Kenya Commercial Bank and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) had been subjected to opaque and unconstitutional transactions.
“Safaricom shares were sold at a fraction of their value. Kenya Pipeline has been threatened with privatisation. JKIA management decisions have placed profit over national security, and KCB has been manipulated for the benefit of a few insiders,” he said, describing the actions as a quiet auctioning of the Republic.
He welcomed recent court interventions halting or questioning actions involving Safaricom, Kenya Pipeline, JKIA and the US–Kenya health deal, saying they exposed a systematic attempt by the regime to erode sovereignty.
Dr Musyoka also criticised the November 27 by-elections, describing them as shambolic. He said that it was shocking for IEBC Chairperson to declare them free and fair, despite reports by the Kenya Human Rights Commission and Election Observers Group (ELOG) citing widespread irregularities. He called for immediate investigations and prosecutions of individuals allegedly involved in election malpractices.
On the worsening drought in parts of the country, Dr Musyoka accused the government of using relief food as campaign inducements in Malava, Mbeere and other areas during the by-elections. He appealed for urgent humanitarian assistance from national, county and international partners and urged Parliament to fast-track the National Disaster Risk Management Bill to strengthen disaster preparedness and coordination.
“In spite of early warnings by NDMA and the meteorological department, the government failed to implement timely animal offtake, leading to devastating livestock losses,” he said, calling for immediate interventions to protect pastoral communities.
Dr Musyoka reaffirmed the Opposition’s commitment to safeguarding public assets, defending constitutional governance and ensuring transparency. “National assets belong to the people; they will never be sold without consent,” he said.
He Declared that Kenya shall not be sold. Kenya shall not be auctioned. Kenya shall not be recolonised not by outsiders, not by insiders, not by anyone,as he wish Kenyans a reflective Jamhuri Day.
