Gideon Moi Urges Africa to Seize Its Place in a Multipolar World at DUA Forum in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya, October 28, 2025 – Kenya African National Union (KANU) Chairman Gideon Moi has called on African nations to assert their position as strategic players in the global arena, emphasizing the need for equitable partnerships and stronger democratic institutions across the continent.

Speaking during the opening of the Democracy Union of Africa (DUA) Forum in Nairobi, Moi welcomed delegates from across the continent, expressing pride that Kenya was chosen to host this year’s gathering. He described the forum as one of Africa’s most consequential spaces for dialogue and collaboration, where ideas converge and continental partnerships are forged to shape Africa’s democratic and economic renewal.

“In today’s multipolar world, Africa must not be a spectator but a strategic player,” Moi said. “We must assert our interests, redefine our partnerships, and shape the terms of our engagement.”

He noted that the world is experiencing significant change, marked by the rise of populism, nationalism, and the erosion of democratic values. However, he said this moment also presents a unique opportunity for center-right movements to demonstrate that democracy, liberty, and economic prosperity can coexist as complementary pillars of progress.

“The center-right philosophy is about balance  between freedom and responsibility, the market and the state, and individual ambition and collective well-being,” Moi stated. “It is about building bridges, not walls; creating opportunity, not dependency; and ensuring prosperity that leaves no one behind.”

Reflecting on KANU’s membership in the Democracy Union of Africa and the International Democracy Union, Moi reiterated the party’s belief that Africa’s destiny lies in open societies, strong institutions, and market-driven economies grounded in liberty and unity.

He expressed gratitude to DUA Chairperson Louissa Atta-Agyemang and her team for selecting Nairobi as the host city, terming it a vote of confidence in Kenya’s commitment to democratic ideals.

“As we engage over the next few days, let us reimagine Africa’s position in a multipolar world,” Moi urged. “We must build alliances that advance our collective interests, cooperation that values our resources, and relations that empower our institutions.”

At the DUA forum in Nairobi, Gideon Moi emphasizes the need for Africa to re-imagine its position in a multipolar world and take a more active role in shaping global progress.

Moi challenged participants to ensure that the forum goes beyond speeches and resolutions. “Let this not be just another conference of ideas, but a launchpad for action,” he said. “Our citizens must see and feel the transformation that emerges from our deliberations.”
