Huawei ICT Competition 2025/2026 Kicks Off with Nationwide Campus Activations

Nairobi, Kenya, September 10, 2025 – The Huawei ICT Academy has officially launched the 2025/2026 Huawei ICT Competition with a colorful roadshow at PC Kinyanjui Institute in Nairobi. The event, welcomed by Deputy Principal for Administration Mrs. Ruth Muia, attracted over 150 students to the institution’s Jitume Lab and marked the start of a nationwide mentorship program set to reach universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in the coming weeks.

This year’s edition seeks to double participation from 6,000 to 12,000 students, giving Kenyan youth expanded access to global-standard ICT training, mentorship, and opportunities to showcase their skills at national, regional, and international levels. Registration runs through November, with the National Final scheduled for December 2025, the Regional Final in South Africa in February 2026, and the Global Final in China in May 2026.

Since its introduction in Kenya in 2018, the competition has already benefited over 12,000 students with technical training and global exposure. Globally, it spans 85 countries, engaging more than 950,000 students.

The 2025/2026 competition features four key tracks: Networking (infrastructure, data communications, cybersecurity), Cloud (IoT, AI, cloud computing), Computing (software, Linux, operating systems), and Innovation, where students design AI- and cloud-based solutions for real-world challenges in health, finance, and agriculture. Participation is free and open to students currently enrolled in Kenyan universities, colleges, or TVET institutions.

Speaking at the launch, Huawei ICT Academy Manager Mr. Michael Kamau said: “The enthusiasm we have seen today at PC Kinyanjui Institute shows that Kenya’s youth are ready to embrace the digital future. Our goal is to double participation and give more students access to world-class ICT training.”

The competition builds on a Memorandum of Understanding signed in March 2025 between Huawei and the State Department for TVET (SDTVET). The three-year partnership will see Huawei establish 150 ICT Academies in TVET institutions, certify 1,000 students annually at the Huawei Certified ICT Associate (HCIA) level, and train 150 instructors under its Training-The-Trainer program. SDTVET will support the initiative by selecting host institutions, promoting certification programs, and recognizing Huawei’s instructor certificates as teaching standards.

Encouraging inclusivity, Huawei’s Public Affairs Director and Head of Women in Tech, Eng. Maureen Mwaniki, urged female students to take part, while Mrs. Muia lauded the program for sharpening technical skills and preparing students for global careers.

The PC Kinyanjui Institute roadshow is the first in a series of campus mentorship events scheduled for September and October, as shown below:
