Kenyans Rank Top Performing Leaders in Nationwide Survey

Nairobi, Monday, September 8 — Lara Africa, a research firm also known as Lee Way Africa, has released survey findings ranking the performance of governors, senators, and women representatives across Kenya.
The survey, conducted in all 47 counties, sampled 4,650 respondents through both stratified and random sampling methods. Of the participants, 51% were male and 49% female. Respondents were asked to rate the performance of their elected leaders since assuming office.
Speaking to the press on Monday in Nairobi, Joy Wambui, a data analyst at Lara Africa, emphasized that the rankings were independent of politics.
“These rankings are not political endorsements but rather a reflection of how Kenyans feel about the quality of leadership they are receiving,” she said.
“This survey sought to gauge how our leaders are serving counties and responding to national concerns,” she added.
The governors ranked among the top three were Hon. Irungu Kang’ata of Murang’a County with 72.8%, Joseph Ole Lenku of Kajiado at 70.6%, and Simba Arati of Kisii at 68.5%. Their performance was measured on roles such as initiation and completion of county projects, among others.
Among senators, Edwin Sifuna of Nairobi emerged top with 70.1%, followed by Aaron Cheruyiot of Kericho at 69.7%, and Tom Ojienda of Kisumu with 69.0%.
The top women representatives were Betty Maina of Murang’a at 68.9%, Jane Kagiri of Laikipia at 67.4%, and Ruth Odinga of Kisumu at 66.7%.
Wambui concluded by observing that the mood of the public reflects heightened vigilance on leadership.
“The results show that Kenyans are watching, listening and taking stock of the leaders they have elected,” she said.
