Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has entered into two key partnerships with Nestlé Kenya and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), in a move aimed at advancing sustainable energy solutions while supporting Kenya’s green growth agenda.

Speaking on Wednesday at a ceremony in Nairobi, KenGen Managing Director and CEO Eng. Peter Njenga signed the cooperation agreements with Nestlé Kenya’s Managing Director Mr. Khaled Ramadan and GGGI’s Africa Strategy and Partnerships Manager Ms. Nagnouma Koné. He described the partnerships as a “historic moment” that brings together the corporate world and global knowledge community in one forum.

KenGen, which produces 1,786MW of electricity 90 percent from renewable sources such as geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar said the collaborations were timely in scaling climate action and energizing Kenya’s transition to a green economy.

Nestlé joins the upcoming KenGen Sustainable Energy Conference, slated for September 17–19, 2025 in Naivasha, as the Official Refreshment Partner, while GGGI assumes the role of Official Knowledge Partner. The conference is expected to draw about 500 delegates, including government leaders, investors, financiers, and development partners, under the theme “Renewable Energy for Sustainable Development.”

“While we generate energy that lights up our nation, it is through collaboration with knowledge leaders and corporate partners alike that we spark innovation, refresh conversations, and scale up climate action,” Eng. Njenga said.

He commended Nestlé for its commitment to sustainability, citing its efforts in reducing carbon emissions, advancing circular packaging, and promoting responsible sourcing.

“With Nestlé by our side, we are proving that a carbon-neutral and sustainable future is not just an aspiration it is possible,” he noted.

Equally, he lauded GGGI’s role in bringing global expertise to the table.

“As our Knowledge Partner, GGGI will infuse our discussions with best practices, financing solutions, and climate-smart policies, transforming the conference into a launchpad for commitments and long-term collaborations,” he added.

Eng. Njenga concluded by affirming KenGen’s optimism in the partnerships, saying they represent a spark and a promise that Kenya’s green growth story will inspire Africa and the world.
