DNA Issues 2025 Statement, Urges Bold Reforms for Kenya’s Renewal

The Democratic and National Alliance (DNA) has issued a strong call for far-reaching reforms in Kenya’s governance, political culture, and institutional accountability. In its 2025 statement, the party voiced deep concern over what it described as a widening gap between the leadership and the people, driven by economic hardship, democratic regression, and growing inequality.

Reading the statement on behalf of the party, DNA Party leader Hon. Geoffrey Kanoti said Kenya is at a crossroads and must choose between continued elite dominance or a future rooted in justice, equity, and participatory democracy. “We must dismantle the culture of fear and authoritarianism that has gripped our institutions and replace it with people-centered, transparent governance,” said Hon. Kanoti.

The party accused the political class of eroding public trust through patronage networks, non-inclusive policymaking, and an apparent disregard for constitutional values. It condemned the state’s use of coercion to silence dissent while neglecting public concerns such as the cost of living, youth unemployment, debt burden, and deteriorating health and education systems.

In response, DNA has proposed the convening of an inclusive national convention. The envisioned forum would bring together citizens, professionals, civil society, faith-based organizations, workers, and political players to create a new governance framework that reflects the true aspirations of Kenyans.

The party’s reform agenda calls for:

Institutional renewal to uphold constitutionalism and accountability.

Strengthening civic participation and democratic culture.

Promotion of economic and social rights for all, particularly youth, women, and marginalized groups.

Public policy that prioritizes the common good over elite interests.

Protection of civil liberties, media freedom, and the rule of law.

DNA emphasized the urgent need for electoral reforms to restore credibility in Kenya’s democratic process. It warned against manipulation of the electoral system and urged for mechanisms that ensure transparency, fairness, and inclusive participation.

Hon. Kanoti concluded by calling on Kenyans to unite across political and social divides in pursuit of a just and accountable political system.

“This is not a partisan issue it is a national call to action. We must reimagine our republic and reclaim the promise of our Constitution,” he said.

The party affirmed its commitment to building a more just, inclusive, and democratic Kenya, rooted in the voices and hopes of ordinary citizens.
