LSK Launches Tailored Health Insurance Plan for Lawyers in Groundbreaking Partnership
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has unveiled a groundbreaking medical insurance scheme for legal practitioners dubbed Wakili Medicover, marking a significant milestone in efforts to improve the well-being of lawyers in Kenya.
The product, developed in partnership with Octagon Africa Financial Services and underwritten by Britam General Insurance Company, offers legal professionals a comprehensive, affordable health cover that directly addresses their unique occupational risks and lifestyle demands.
Speaking during the official launch, LSK President Faith Odhiambo emphasized the urgency for lawyers to prioritize their health, stating, “Health is critical to our ability to fight for justice. Wakili Medicover should mark the end of health-related crises among our members. This product tells every advocate: you matter.”

Odhiambo described the medical insurance plan as a practical step toward fulfilling her administration’s promise to deliver meaningful benefits to LSK members.
“This is a win for our members a legacy of transformation rooted in inclusion and wellness,” she said, urging members to embrace the scheme and make proactive health decisions.
Wakili Medicover offers a range of inpatient cover options from KES 500,000 to KES 10 million per family, inclusive of free maternity, dental, and optical services.
It also features reduced waiting periods for chronic and pre-existing conditions, access to ICU services, surgeries, overseas referrals, and even organ transplants. A KES 1 million Personal Accident Cash Rider and last expense cover are also included.
Octagon Africa Group CEO Fred Waswa lauded the plan as a reflection of empathy-driven innovation. “Lawyers often sacrifice their health for the pursuit of justice. This product is more than a policy it’s a commitment to dignity, wellness, and financial protection,” said Waswa, noting that the collaboration with LSK marks the beginning of a long-term strategic relationship.
James Mbithi, CEO of Britam General Insurance, highlighted the scheme’s practical relevance. “Wakili Medicover responds to the daily realities of legal practice long hours, high stress, and limited flexibility. From seamless outpatient access to proactive wellness initiatives, it’s built to serve the legal fraternity meaningfully.”
