Nairobi Hospital Hosts Key Forum to Boost Kenya’s Medical Tourism Industry

The Nairobi Hospital brought together key players in the healthcare and tourism sectors for the Magical Kenya Medical Tourism Forum, aimed at positioning Kenya as a leading medical tourism destination in Africa.
The event, held at the hospital’s Amphitheatre, attracted medical specialists, representatives from leading hospitals, travel and hospitality partners, and both national and county government officials.
Organized by Magical Kenya and the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), the forum provided a platform to discuss opportunities, challenges, and strategies to enhance Kenya’s global competitiveness in medical tourism.

Speaking at the forum, Dr. Samuel Odede, Director of Medical Services & Research at The Nairobi Hospital, emphasized Kenya’s ability to attract international patients.
“Kenya boasts world-class medical facilities, skilled specialists, and advanced healthcare infrastructure. By fostering collaboration between the tourism and healthcare sectors, we can develop a thriving medical tourism industry that not only boosts our economy but also enhances healthcare services for both local and international patients,” said Mr. Odede.
According to Ken Research, the global medical tourism market is projected to surpass Sh5.2 trillion ($40 billion) by 2025, driven by an ageing population, disparities in healthcare access, and advancements in medical technology.

Kenya, which currently attracts around 5,000 medical tourists annually, is seeking to formalize and expand its role in this growing sector.
The Kenya Tourism Board presented its Medical Tourism Strategy, outlining key focus areas to position Kenya as a trusted healthcare destination.
A panel discussion, moderated by Mr. Muthuri Kinyamu, CEO of Accessible Travel, featured government officials, medical experts, and industry leaders who shared insights and recommendations.
