Governor Sakaja Suspends Two Officers Over Illegal Garbage Dumping as DCI Launches Probe
Governor Johnson Sakaja has interdicted two senior county officers implicated in an illegal garbage dumping scandal near Stima Plaza. The move comes as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirms that a formal probe is underway.
Speaking before the County Assembly’s Committee on Administration and Internal Security, Sakaja condemned the incident, terming it a breach of county regulations and ethical standards.
“Two officers have been interdicted for their involvement in illegal dumping. This is not what we stand for as a county. On behalf of my administration, I sincerely apologize this should never have happened,” said Sakaja.
The officers allegedly directed the unlawful dumping, prompting swift action from law enforcement agencies.Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja revealed that investigations commenced immediately after the matter was reported, despite his absence from the country at the time.
“I was in Nigeria when the incident occurred, but we ensured investigations began promptly,” Kanja stated.
DCI Director Mohamed Amin confirmed that Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) officials lodged a formal complaint at Parklands Police Station following the incident.
“We acted on the report and launched investigations, leading to several arrests for questioning,” Amin disclosed.
He further assured that authorities are determined to unearth the full extent of the illegal dumping operation.
“This was an unfortunate case of environmental negligence. We are conducting thorough investigations, and those found culpable will face legal action,” the DCI affirmed.
The three officials emphasized the need for stronger preventive measures to ensure such incidents do not recur in the future.
