CSOs Seek Clarity on PBO Act Compliance at HENNET CEO Breakfast
Civil society organizations (CSOs) engaged in a high-level dialogue on regulatory compliance during the HENNET Kenya CEO Breakfast & Special General Meeting held at Radisson Blu Hotel.
The event, attended by key sector leaders, provided a platform to address pressing concerns about the May 14, 2025, deadline for alignment with the Public Benefit Organizations (PBO) Act 2013.
Edward Munene, Executive Director moderated a crucial discussion with Dr. Laxmana Kiptoo, Director General of the PBO Regulatory Authority.
CSO leaders sought clarity on the steps required to transition to full compliance with the Act, which mandates the registration of organizations under the new legal framework.
Dr. Kiptoo assured stakeholders that the Authority is committed to a smooth transition, emphasizing the importance of timely applications and adherence to compliance guidelines. He also highlighted ongoing engagements with the sector to facilitate a seamless shift.
“The PBO Act aims to strengthen governance, accountability, and operational efficiency in the civil society space. We encourage organizations to take proactive steps to meet the registration requirements before the deadline,” Dr. Kiptoo stated.
Participants acknowledged the importance of the Act in enhancing transparency but expressed concerns about the registration process and potential operational disruptions.
The session call for further consultations and support mechanisms to ease the transition.
HENNET Kenya reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for CSOs and providing technical guidance as they navigate the regulatory landscape.
The event underscored the sector’s collective responsibility to uphold compliance while continuing to drive social impact.
