AI Technology to Help Teachers Personalise Learning as Makini Expands Cambridge Pathway

Makini Schools has expanded its Cambridge International Curriculum to its Runda Campus, introducing a dual-curriculum model that combines Kenya’s Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum with the globally recognised Cambridge pathway while rolling out artificial intelligence-powered learning technology designed to help teachers personalise instruction based on every learner’s individual needs.
Speaking during the launch of the Cambridge Pathway at Makini School Runda, Makini Schools General Manager Godfrey Odhiambo said the expansion responds to increasing demand from Kenyan families seeking internationally recognised education without compromising the strong values, discipline and academic excellence that have defined the institution for nearly five decades.
“At Makini, our focus is on delivering consistent, high-quality learning experiences across every campus. The introduction of the Cambridge pathway at Runda allows us to respond directly to parent demand for internationally recognised education, while maintaining the strong values, discipline and academic rigour that define Makini. Families can now access a globally competitive curriculum within a trusted and established school environment,” said Odhiambo.
The introduction of the Cambridge curriculum follows the successful acquisition and integration of Regis Academy into the Makini Group of Schools and positions the Runda Campus as a dual-curriculum institution, allowing parents to choose either the CBE or Cambridge pathway depending on their children’s aspirations while remaining within the same school community.
School leaders said the model is built on flexibility rather than competition between the two curricula. While each curriculum maintains its own academic framework, learners can transition seamlessly from one pathway to the other through structured assessments that help determine the programme best suited to a child’s strengths, learning style and future ambitions. This allows families to make curriculum decisions without disrupting a learner’s education or changing schools.
Makini said the approach has already been tested at its Ngong Road Campus, where the Cambridge curriculum was introduced in 2020 and has successfully coexisted alongside the Kenyan curriculum. The school says the experience has demonstrated that both pathways can thrive under one institution while maintaining consistent academic standards and offering parents greater choice. The Ngong Road Campus has also produced impressive results, including Kenya’s top Cambridge IGCSE learner in English and Literature in the 2025 examinations.
Beyond expanding curriculum choices, the school is introducing ADvLEARN, an artificial intelligence-powered adaptive learning platform developed by Advtech Group to support both teachers and learners.
The platform analyses learners’ performance data, identifies knowledge gaps and automatically creates personalised learning pathways based on each child’s strengths and areas requiring improvement. Rather than replacing teachers, the technology equips them with real-time insights that enable earlier interventions, targeted classroom support and more informed teaching decisions. It also reduces time spent analysing assessment data, allowing teachers to focus more on learner engagement and academic growth.
The AI platform will work alongside internationally benchmarked MAP assessments and continuous teacher development programmes delivered through Advtech’s Academics Centre of Excellence. Together, the systems are designed to help educators monitor learner progress more accurately while strengthening critical thinking, problem-solving and independent learning skills that are increasingly required in today’s global economy.
