Bunge La Mwananchi has expressed its deep gratitude to President William Ruto for his unwavering support of Raila Amolo Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

In a statement issued by the office of the chairman,Bunge la Mwananchi the grassroots movement also congratulated Raila for presenting a visionary and transformative agenda for the African Union, regardless of the election outcome.

“More than just a candidate, Raila Odinga embodied the voice of Africa, the struggles of the continent, and the aspirations of its founding fathers,” read the statement signed by Bunge La Mwananchi Chairman, Activist Lawi Oyugi.

Kenya also acknowledged the 22 African heads of state who backed its candidate, terming their support a reinforcement of traditional ties at both bilateral and multilateral levels.

Bunge La Mwananchi while speaking at Jevanjee during a press briefing,it strongly defended Kenya’s security apparatus, dismissing claims that security failures contributed to Raila’s loss.

The movement condemned politicians who, after traveling to Addis Ababa on public funds, resorted to criticizing the country’s intelligence and security agencies instead of actively lobbying for votes.

“There was no security lapse during the campaign period. The security team ensured the safety of Kenya’s candidate as he traversed the continent,” the statement affirmed.

The group further criticized political leaders attempting to blame security agencies for the election loss, calling their actions misplaced, unprofessional and a continuation of the outdated practice of scapegoating the intelligence system.

Bunge La Mwananchi urged parliamentary leadership to take disciplinary action against MPs who undermine Kenya’s security institutions, warning that such rhetoric erodes public trust in national intelligence services.

“The Kenyan people have entrusted these institutions with national security, and their professionalism should not be politicized,” according to the statement.

Bunge la Mwananchi reaffirmed its confidence in Kenya’s seasoned diplomats and politicians, who are well-trained to undertake diplomatic and political enterprises at the continental level.

It has called for unity and a renewed commitment to the nation’s progress, urging leaders to focus on constructive engagement rather than divisive politics.
