Qatar Airways Makes Major Africa Expansion Move with New Flights and Route Returns
Qatar Airways has announced a significant expansion of its African network, strengthening travel links across the continent through the resumption of routes, increased flight frequencies, and the launch of a new destination. The move, scheduled to begin in mid-2026, reflects the airline’s continued strategy of enhancing international connectivity while responding to rising passenger demand and growing trade opportunities.
Beginning on 16 June 2026, the carrier will resume four weekly flights to Seychelles (SEZ) and two weekly services to Kigali (KGL). These route resumptions are expected to improve travel access for passengers and support stronger connections between Africa and key international markets served through Qatar Airways’ global network. The airline also plans to introduce daily flights to Marrakesh (RAK) starting on 1 July 2026, further increasing travel options for customers travelling to and from North Africa.
In another major development, Qatar Airways will launch three weekly flights to Port Sudan, Sudan, beginning on 2 July 2026. The new route is expected to open additional travel opportunities and improve access for passengers from several important markets, particularly in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Travelers from countries such as Oman and Pakistan will be able to connect through Hamad International Airport, allowing for smoother and more convenient journeys to Port Sudan.
The airline said the expansion is part of a broader effort to strengthen its presence across Africa while supporting efficient and reliable travel options. Improved route networks are expected to contribute not only to passenger mobility but also to trade and economic activity by creating stronger links between regions.
Industry observers note that airlines continue to focus on expanding connectivity as international travel demand rises and customers seek more convenient routing options. Qatar Airways’ latest announcement highlights the growing importance of Africa in global aviation strategies, with airlines increasingly investing in routes that connect emerging markets to major international hubs.
With the planned additions and service increases, Qatar Airways aims to reinforce its role as a global connector while pursuing sustainable growth and meeting the evolving needs of travelers across different regions.
