Shocking Discovery: 33 Bodies, Including 25 Children, Exhumed from Kericho Mass Grave

A multi-agency team unearthed at least 33 bodies from a mass grave at Kericho Cemetery on Tuesday, shattering initial reports of just 14 burials.

The grim findings, including 25 children and six separate body parts like limbs, have sparked urgent investigations into possible foul play and irregular burials.

Harrowing Details Emerge from Kericho Mass Grave Exhumation

Officials revealed the remains showed varying decomposition stages, hinting at deaths spread over different times. This suggests the bodies weren’t buried together and may hail from external sources like hospitals or mortuaries.

– 25 children

– 8 adults

– 6 body parts (upper and lower limbs)

“Recent findings at Kericho Cemetery have revealed multiple human remains under circumstances suggesting varied timelines and possible external sources,” authorities stated.

The operation fell under the watchful eye of Director of Homicide Martin Nyuguto and a government pathologist standing in for Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor.

Court Greenlights Probe into Kericho Mass Grave Mystery

Just days earlier, on March 23, 2026, at around 9:30 a.m., two suspects faced arraignment in Kericho’s Chief Magistrate’s Court. Prosecutors filed a Miscellaneous Application for custodial orders and exhumation permissions.

The court approved both for 30 days, empowering teams to exhume, examine, and probe further.
