Isuzu East Africa Marks 50 Years of Innovation and Growth with Landmark Time Capsule Ceremony

Nairobi, Wednesday, September 3, 2025 – Isuzu East Africa (Isuzu EA), the region’s leading motor vehicle assembler, has marked a historic milestone its Golden Jubilee celebrating 50 years of delivering reliable transport solutions and powering growth across East Africa.

The celebrations, held at Isuzu EA’s Nairobi Assembly Plant, brought together government leaders, global dignitaries, employees, customers, and business partners to honor the company’s journey since 1975 and to envision its future. The highlight was a symbolic Time Capsule Ceremony, preserving Isuzu EA’s heritage, achievements, and aspirations for the next generation.

A Legacy of Trust and Transformation

Reflecting on the journey, Rita Kavashe, Chair of the Board and Managing Director of Isuzu EA, said the company’s impact has gone beyond the assembly line.

“Our story is one of trust, resilience, and transformation. For 50 years, Isuzu vehicles have been part of East African progress supporting farmers, transporting children, powering businesses, and building economies. Today, we celebrate our golden past and look forward with optimism, confident in a bold and boundless future,” she said.

Supporting Kenya’s Industrial Agenda

Dr. Juma Mukhwana, Principal Secretary for Industry at the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, commended the company for aligning its operations with national goals.

“Isuzu East Africa has not only provided transport solutions but has championed compliance with standards, safeguarded safety through genuine parts, and fought counterfeits that undermine our economy. These efforts resonate with the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA),” Dr. Mukhwana noted.

He added that Isuzu EA’s vehicles, which traverse borders carrying goods and produce, underscore Kenya’s growing role as a regional automotive hub.

Global Commitment to Africa

The Chief Guest, Koji Nakamura, Senior Executive Officer and Executive Vice President of International Sales Division, Isuzu Motors Limited, reaffirmed the parent company’s dedication to Africa.

“For half a century, Isuzu EA has built a reputation of durability and reliability. Isuzu Motors remains committed to supporting Africa’s growth with multi-pathway technologies and carbon-neutral solutions,” he said.

Celebrating Milestones and Partnerships

The event showcased iconic models ranging from the rugged Isuzu D-Max pickups to the reliable F-Series trucks which have powered various industries. Guests also toured exhibits of the company’s recent milestones, including:

A KSh 3 billion Parts Distribution Centre in Lukenya, launched in August 2025.

The KSh 1 billion Electro-Deposition (ED) Paint Plant, commissioned in 2023, the first of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa outside South Africa.

The strategic partnership with UD Trucks, making Isuzu EA the official importer, assembler, and distributor of UD Trucks in Kenya.

Ms. Kavashe emphasized that the company’s next 50 years will be guided by ISUZU ID, a global corporate philosophy launched in 2023, rooted in reliability and creativity under the banner “Moving the World, for You.”

Japan-Kenya Collaboration

Amb. Matsuura Hiroshi, Japan’s Ambassador to Kenya, highlighted the strong bilateral ties underpinning Isuzu EA’s success. He noted that during TICAD 9 in August 2025, Japan pledged a Samurai loan facility worth ¥25 billion (approximately KSh 22 billion) to Kenya.

“The largest share about ¥15 billion will advance Kenya’s National Automotive Policy, supporting local assembly, spare parts manufacturing, green vehicle production, and the training of skilled technicians. Companies like Isuzu East Africa are at the heart of this transformation,” he said.

A Message to the Future

The event concluded with the sealing of the Time Capsule, placed at the Nairobi Assembly Plant’s reception area, to be opened in 2050 during Isuzu EA’s 75th anniversary.

The capsule contains miniature Isuzu models, annual reports, photographs, marketing materials, and testimonials from employees and customers. Among the special contributions is a signed message from Rita Kavashe and Isuzu D-Max Brand Ambassador Eliud Kipchoge, echoing his iconic words: “No human is limited.”

Ms. Kavashe said the Time Capsule symbolizes more than artifacts.

“It tells the next generation that we stood for something real: integrity, innovation, and respect. When opened in 2050, it will remind our successors of the values that carried us through five decades and inspire them to dream even bigger.”

With its Golden Jubilee celebrations, Isuzu East Africa has not only honored its past but also reaffirmed its ambition to remain a leader in sustainable transport solutions driving Kenya and the wider region into the future.
