Uzalendo Half Marathon Launched with KSh 25 Million Fundraising Goal to Support Education
The Uzalendo School, in collaboration with the Eldama Ravine Education Fund (IREF), has officially launched the 2025 edition of the Uzalendo Half Marathon with a bold vision to raise KSh 25 million for a long-term education endowment fund aimed at supporting bright but needy students in rural Kenya.
Speaking during the launch event, the Chair of Uzalendo School,Eng. John Tanui Principal Secretary (PS), Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy expressed deep pride in the growing network of sponsors supporting the initiative, emphasizing the far-reaching impact of education-focused philanthropy.
“The story of Alumni Abuid Kiptoo who is now a solar engineer, one of our top beneficiaries, shows how sustained mentorship and support can transform lives. Through this marathon, we want to scale that impact,” the Chair said.
The marathon, scheduled for Saturday, July 19, 2025, in Koybatek, Eldama Ravine, is themed Running for Patriotism, Education and Kenya’s Future, seeks to not only raise funds but also rally citizens toward rebuilding national pride and investing in grassroots development, especially through education and youth empowerment.
Chief Cabinet Secretary for Gender and Culture, Hon. Hanna Wendort Cheptumo, presided over the event and called on professionals and leaders to give back to their communities.
“This marathon is not just about running; it’s about creating a legacy. Education is the future of this country, and every contribution no matter the amount counts,” she said.

The initiative has drawn significant backing from both the public and private sectors. Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) donated KSh 2 million, with Roseline Gichuru, KCB Group Chief Marketing Manager, reaffirming the bank’s commitment to education and enterprise development. Other contributions included KSh 1 million from Karen Roses, KSh 1 million from Karimu Connect, and KSh 500,000 from Inua AI.
Fred Muchoma, CEO of Inua AI, joined sponsors in presenting cheques, while the Ministry of Sports pledged to cater for all prize money and future support for similar initiatives.
The Communications Authority of Kenya, Kenya Ports Authority, NSSF, Huawei, Kenya Forest Service, and several other partners were also recognized.
In her remarks, Hon. Cheptumo urged transparency and prudent management of the funds raised, lauding Athletics Kenya and Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya for ensuring the event meets international standards.
She also acknowledged the Baringo County government’s support in hosting the event, which will include community outreach at a local school for the deaf and blind on Friday.
The marathon stands as a model for using sports as a tool for education, patriotism, and national transformation, with organizers hopeful the impact will be felt for generations to come.
