UDA, ODM Approve MoU to Implement NADCO Reforms
The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to guide the implementation of proposed reforms under the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) talks.
The decision was reached during a UDA parliamentary group meeting held at State House, Nairobi, where the joint framework with ODM was approved.
President William Ruto hailed the agreement as a significant step toward national unity, emphasizing its role in fostering bipartisan governance.
Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina underscored the MoU’s importance in resolving the political tensions that have gripped the country since June last year, when Gen Z-led protests erupted in opposition to the now-withdrawn Finance Bill 2024.
However, ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna was quick to dispel speculation that the agreement signaled the formation of a political coalition.
UDA Secretary-General Hassan Omar echoed this sentiment, stating that the pact would strictly serve as a framework for cooperation between President Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga in advancing national interests.
The agreement marks a crucial step in implementing the NADCO reforms, which are expected to address key governance and economic issues raised during the national dialogue process.
