Fake Brake Pads Worth Kshs 937,500 Seized by ACA in Nairobi Crackdown

The Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA) has seized over 500 counterfeit brake pads valued at Kshs 937,500 in a crackdown at Impala Downtown HQ Ltd in Baba Dogo, Nairobi.

Acting on a public tip-off, ACA inspectors raided the premises and discovered the illicit goods, which were falsely branded to mimic a leading trademark in the motor vehicle industry.

ACA Inspector Mr. Omedo Mark, who led the operation, warned that counterfeit automotive parts pose serious risks to road users.

“The sale and distribution of these counterfeit products not only endanger public safety but also undermine legitimate trade and infringe on intellectual property rights,” he stated.

The substandard brake pads, sold at lower prices than genuine ones, could lead to severe accidents and fatalities.

“Counterfeit brake pads are not only unsafe but can lead to catastrophic failures on the road,” Mr. Mark added.

The ACA is working with other regulatory agencies and industry stakeholders to track the source of the counterfeit goods and prevent their circulation in the market.

The Authority is also ramping up consumer awareness campaigns to educate the public on the importance of purchasing vehicle parts from authorized dealers.

Mr. Omedo urged motorists to remain vigilant, buy from licensed distributors, and report suspected counterfeit products to the ACA to enhance road safety and protect legitimate businesses.
