Tiren claims top honours at Absa centenary golf tournament
Kristian Tiren emerged the overall winner of the Absa @ 100 Eldoret Golf Tournament after posting 41 points at Eldoret Club.
Tiren, who plays off handicap 17, beat a field of 108 golfers to claim the top prize in the tournament organised by Absa Bank Kenya as part of its centenary celebrations in Eldoret.
In Division One, Ken Serem topped the standings with 39 points, while Wilson Kwambai finished second on 37 points.
Edwin Cherop won Division Two with 37 points, with Nick Murrey finishing as runner-up.
The tournament attracted business leaders, customers, partners and other stakeholders, including Absa Bank Kenya Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Yusuf Omari and Business Banking Director Renato D’Souza.
Tiren said he had not expected to emerge victorious in a tournament that attracted a strong field.
“It was a tough competition and every hole demanded focus and consistency. I am delighted to have won and grateful to Absa for organising such a fantastic tournament,” said Tiren.
Omari said the tournament provided an opportunity for the bank to appreciate customers and partners who have supported its operations in the region over the past century.
“As we celebrate 100 years in Eldoret, we wanted to create meaningful opportunities to engage with our customers, partners and stakeholders beyond business. Golf provides a unique platform for building relationships and strengthening community ties,” said Omari.
Eldoret Club chairman Dr Neelesh Aggarwal thanked Absa for sponsoring the competition, saying corporate partnerships were critical in promoting golf and expanding opportunities for players.
The tournament was part of a week-long programme marking Absa’s 100 years of operations in Eldoret. The celebrations also featured the inaugural Absa City Run, held on Sunday.
