Authorities Bust Illegal Mineral Trade in Nairobi and Athi River
In a high-profile operation, law enforcement officers raided a residence in Eagle Plains Estate, Nairobi, and a warehouse in Athi River last evening, dismantling a suspected illegal mineral trading network.
The crackdown led to the arrest of three Chinese nationals and one Kenyan individual, who are believed to be key players in the illicit activities.
During the raids, authorities confiscated sacks of mineral-rich rocks containing iron ore, copper, zinc, and lead, estimated to be worth over Ksh 200 million.
The materials, believed to be extracted and traded illegally.The operation is part of an intensified effort to curb illegal mining and mineral trafficking, which has raised concerns about economic losses and environmental damage in Kenya.
Investigations are ongoing as the authorities work to determine the full extent of the network’s operations and their potential links to other illegal activities.
