Talanta Sports City Inspected as CS Mvurya Reviews Progress

Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Salim Mvurya.

The Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure development during a visit to the Talanta Sports City to review it’s progress.

Speaking on Thursday during the inspection of the Stadium, Mvurya emphasized the importance of collaboration with the media in informing Kenyans about ongoing projects aimed at improving the country’s sports facilities.

“My visit today is to confirm that the construction work is progressing well. This stadium, which holds historical significance, will be a top-tier facility by the time we host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Based on the briefing and what I have observed, we are on track to complete it by December this year,” he said.

He noted that the Talanta Sports Stadium, which will accommodate 60,000 fans, is being designed to host football and rugby matches.

Mvurya expressed satisfaction with the progress of the construction and other preparations across the country as he highlighted the multi-stakeholder approach that involves ground teams and supervision by the Ministry of Defence, in ensuring daily oversight to meet the ambitious deadlines.

“This is good work, and we will continue to monitor progress. Our teams are on the ground every day, and we’ll periodically invite the media to assess the advancements together,” he stated.

The CS also noted the significant developments in other key stadiums, including Kasarani, which has seen substantial improvements.

“The field at Kasarani has regenerated well, and all necessary preparations are progressing smoothly,” he said, expressing assurance about Kenya’s readiness to host continental tournaments.

He commended the workers and urged their continued efforts to ensure the country meets its infrastructure goals ahead of the August championships.
