Kenya’s newly appointed Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and The Digital Economy, William Kabogo, has committed to steer the country’s digital transformation agenda to ensure public services are more accessible and efficiently delivered.

Speaking on Saturday at a handover ceremony at Telposta Towers in Nairobi, Kabogo outlined his vision to digitize the entire government, beginning with his Ministry, to provide Kenyans with timely and effective services.

Kabogo’s pledge comes at a time when Kenya is increasingly focusing on digital solutions to streamline government operations and improve service delivery. He emphasized the urgent need for full digitization, which will not only improve the functioning of government services but also enhance transparency and accountability.

“We are committed to fully digitizing our Ministry and extending this transformation to the entire Government,” Kabogo said, adding that the goal is to ensure that all services are accessible and efficient, contributing to a seamless experience for every Kenyan.

The CS also highlighted the critical role of social media in fostering responsible communication. He urged Kenyans to engage with digital platforms thoughtfully, ensuring that the freedom of expression is upheld in accordance with the Constitution.

He acknowledged the power of social media to share meaningful content that can improve the lives of citizens while calling for a balance to avoid the spread of misinformation.

“I encourage responsible use of social media, ensuring we communicate effectively without causing unnecessary controversies,” he stated.

A key aspect of Kabogo’s agenda is the protection of personal data. He stressed the need to bolster the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) to ensure that Kenyans understand their rights regarding data use, while also safeguarding their personal information from misuse.

“We must ensure that data is used ethically and responsibly, building trust and accountability in the digital realm,” Kabogo said.
