Anti-Phishing Campaign Warns Graduates Against Fake Internship Scams

Graduates and job seekers have been warned against fake internship offers used by fraudsters to steal money and personal information.

The warning is part of an ongoing anti-phishing campaign aimed at helping the public identify and avoid online scams targeting unsuspecting victims.

One scam highlighted in the campaign involves a message claiming that a graduate has been selected for a paid internship. The victim is then asked to send KSh 3,000 through M-Pesa to receive an appointment letter.

Campaign organisers say such payment requests should raise an immediate red flag. Genuine employers and organisations do not require applicants to pay money before receiving an internship appointment.

The public has been urged to verify internship offers directly with the organisation involved before sending money or sharing personal details.

The campaign encourages graduates to think before clicking links, question suspicious requests and avoid making payments to secure employment opportunities.
