Mavericks appoint Masai Ujiri as President in major front-office shake-up
The Dallas Mavericks have appointed Masai Ujiri as President and Alternate Governor in a major front-office overhaul aimed at steering the franchise back to championship contention.
Ujiri, widely regarded as one of the NBA’s top basketball executives, will oversee all aspects of the Mavericks’ basketball operations, including roster construction, scouting and player personnel.
The appointment marks a significant statement of intent from the Mavericks, who are seeking to rebuild and strengthen their competitiveness in the league.
“The Dallas Mavericks are committed to being a world-class organization with a strong culture and focused on winning championships. Masai Ujiri is one of the great basketball leaders of this generation,” said Patrick Dumont.
Dumont said Ujiri’s arrival is a crucial step in achieving the franchise’s long-term ambitions.
Ujiri joins Dallas after a successful spell with the Toronto Raptors, where he served as Vice Chairman and President and guided the team to its first NBA title in 2019.
His reputation as a master team-builder and talent developer has made him one of the most respected executives in professional basketball.
Speaking after his appointment, Ujiri said he was honored to join the Mavericks at a crucial time for the organization.
“This is a franchise with a proud history, passionate fans and a commitment to winning. I look forward to working with our players, coaches and leadership team to build something that reflects that standard and competes at the highest level,” he said.
Beyond basketball, Ujiri is also known for his work in Africa through Giants of Africa, a non-profit organisation he founded in 2003 to empower youth through sports, education and leadership.
He also recently joined the ownership group of the Toronto Tempo, underlining his continued influence in the growth of basketball globally.
Ujiri’s arrival in Dallas is expected to usher in a new era for the Mavericks as the franchise seeks to re-establish itself among the NBA elite.
