Somali President Hassan Mohamud Arrives in Addis Ababa for UN Food Systems Summit

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived in Addis Ababa to attend the second United Nations Food Systems Summit +4 (UNFSS+4), a high-level gathering aimed at accelerating global action towards more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems.
The summit, which brings together heads of state, policymakers, development partners, and civil society, is a follow-up to the inaugural 2021 UN Food Systems Summit. It provides a platform for reviewing national progress on food systems transformation, sharing innovations, and forging partnerships to tackle global hunger, malnutrition, and climate-related food insecurity.
President Mohamud’s participation underscores Somalia’s commitment to addressing the country’s food and nutrition challenges, particularly in the wake of recurring droughts, conflict, and economic instability that have strained the nation’s agricultural systems and food supply chains.
During the summit, President Mohamud is expected to engage in high-level dialogues and bilateral meetings, presenting Somalia’s national pathways and priorities in transforming its food systems. His presence also reinforces Somalia’s call for international collaboration, investment, and support in building climate-resilient agriculture and food security mechanisms.
The #UNFSS+4, hosted by the Government of Ethiopia and convened by the UN, comes at a critical time when African nations are seeking to localize solutions and strengthen food system governance in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Somalia continues to face acute food insecurity, with millions of people depending on humanitarian assistance. President Mohamud’s engagement at the summit highlights the need for durable solutions that go beyond emergency response and focus on structural transformation, resilience-building, and inclusive economic growth.
