Kendu Bay ESP Market Nears Completion
Construction of the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) Market in Kendu Bay, Homa Bay County is nearing completion, with the final phase of laying pavement blocks currently underway.
According to a post shared on the Facebook page of Raymond Omollo, the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration, the project is expected to transform organized trade in the fast-growing lakefront town whose economy is largely supported by fishing, small enterprises and cross-lake commerce across Lake Victoria.

The modern market has been designed to respond to the social and economic realities of the area. Key facilities include an ICT hub, a cold room to support fish preservation and value addition, a lactating room, administrative offices, a children’s playground, a social hall, a kitchen and a well-equipped ablution block.
Dr Omollo noted that the State Department has played a key role in supporting the project by ensuring coordinated oversight, maintaining a secure construction environment and aligning the initiative with broader government efforts aimed at stabilizing and strengthening lakefront economies.
