Absa Bank Kenya has partnered with marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge in a new initiative aimed at inspiring individuals, entrepreneurs and businesses across Africa to pursue their ambitions and achieve their financial goals.

The partnership, unveiled in Nairobi on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, will see Kipchoge serve as Absa’s Official World Tour Financial Partner, bringing together the bank’s financial empowerment agenda and the athlete’s message of discipline, determination and human potential.

According to Absa, the partnership will focus on sharing stories of ambition and achievement while encouraging people to pursue opportunities in areas such as business, education, home ownership and wealth creation.

Kipchoge, a two-time Olympic marathon champion and multiple World Marathon Major winner, is widely regarded as one of the greatest long-distance runners of all time. He also made history in 2019 when he became the first person to run a marathon in under two hours under specially organised conditions.

The partnership follows his return to Kenya from an international tour during which he won the 2026 Melbourne Marathon and set a new course record, according to the bank’s announcement.

Absa Bank Kenya Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Yusuf Omari said Kipchoge’s journey demonstrated how talent, discipline and purpose could help individuals overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

“Partnering with Eliud enables us to connect with our customers on a human level, inspiring everyday individuals, entrepreneurs and institutions to dream bigger and achieve their financial aspirations across Kenya and the rest of Africa,” Omari said.

The bank said the partnership would extend beyond athletics to include customer experiences, leadership conversations, digital storytelling, wellness initiatives and community programmes across its African markets.

Absa Bank Kenya Marketing and Corporate Affairs Director Mwihaki Wachira said the initiative was anchored in the bank’s purpose of empowering Africa’s future through individual stories and shared opportunities.

She said the partnership reflected the bank’s belief that people could achieve extraordinary things when given the right support.

Kipchoge said he was pleased to partner with Absa, citing the importance of trust and teamwork in achieving long-term goals.

“Success is never achieved alone. That is why I am proud to call Absa my partner and to feel their support as I run seven marathons on all seven continents in pursuit of my vision to make the world a running world,” Kipchoge said.

The athlete added that his relationship with the bank was strengthened by his experience as a long-time customer.

Through the partnership, Absa and Kipchoge aim to encourage Africans to pursue their ambitions, with the bank linking the athlete’s message of perseverance to its focus on supporting customers, businesses and communities.
