Team Kenya Set for World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest

Kenya will field a strong contingent at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship, scheduled to take place in Budapest, Hungary, from September 11 to 13.

The team includes several of the country’s leading athletes, with Olympic 800m champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi headlining the squad.

Wanyonyi will compete in the men’s 800m, while former world champion Timothy Cheruiyot and Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech will represent Kenya in the 1500m.

Jacob Krop and Cornelius Kemboi will contest the men’s 5000m as Kenya seeks to maintain its strong presence in the distance events.

Experienced javelin thrower Julius Yego will represent the country in the field events.

In the women’s events, Mercy Adongo Oketch will compete in the 400m, while Dorcus Ewoi will take part in the 1500m. Kenya will also be represented in the mixed 4x400m relay.

The championship is expected to attract a high-calibre field featuring Olympic and world champions, as well as Diamond League winners.

The three-day competition will provide a significant test for the Kenyan athletes as they compete against some of the world’s best.

Particular attention will be focused on Wanyonyi, Cheruiyot and Yego, who possess considerable international experience and will be expected to spearhead Kenya’s medal campaign.

Team Kenya will be seeking to make a strong impression in Budapest and reaffirm the country’s enduring strength in global athletics.
