Murkomen Tells Opposition to Keep Off IEBC Affairs

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has told Opposition leaders to stop interfering with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and instead focus on selling their agenda to Kenyans.

Murkomen said it was wrong for political players to try to control the electoral body while at the same time participating as candidates.

“You see someone talking about the IEBC. He wants to be the contractor, candidate, and referee at the same time,” he said.

He accused the current Opposition of lacking ideas and policy direction, saying even young leaders were dismissing the importance of a manifesto.

“I’m surprised to see young people of my age campaigning and saying that a manifesto is not important. There has never been an Opposition that is as poor in ideas and policies as what we have right now,” Murkomen said.

He said President William Ruto’s development record remains unmatched and challenged those seeking to unseat him to compete on track record and ideas.

“They want to challenge President Ruto, whose track record is second to none,” he said.

Murkomen was speaking in Kapsamoo, Kapseret Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, during an interdenominational service and fundraiser for the construction of 22 churches, where he had accompanied Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki.

Deputy President Kindiki echoed his sentiments, urging the Opposition to present a clear manifesto.

“I want to ask those who want to compete with President Ruto to come up with a manifesto and tell the people of Kenya about their vision,” Kindiki said.

The function was attended by Governors Jonathan Bii, Patrick Ole Ntutu and Stephen Sang, PSs Belio Kipsang and Julius Bitok, Senators Jackson Mandago and Vincent Chemitei, MPs Oscar Sudi, Reuben Kiborek, William Kamket and Joseph Wainaina, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, and a host of MCAs and local leaders.
