Kenya Airways flights delayed at JKIA as air traffic control challenges persist
Kenya Airways has warned passengers of continued flight delays at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) following ongoing air traffic control challenges affecting flights into and out of the country’s main aviation hub.
In an update issued on Sunday, the national carrier said only 30 per cent of its scheduled flights had departed by 2pm, with flights recording average delays of between two and three hours.
The airline, however, said some departures were still experiencing delays of more than three hours as efforts continued to manage the disruption.
Air traffic control challenges disrupt flights
Kenya Airways said it was proactively contacting affected passengers to provide updates on flight changes and revised travel arrangements.
“Safety of our crew and customers remains our highest priority,” the airline said, adding that its teams were working with relevant airport stakeholders to ensure safe operations and minimise disruption.
The delays come as passengers continue to face uncertainty over flight schedules, with the carrier urging travellers to keep their contact information updated to receive timely notifications.
Kenya Airways advised customers to visit its website or use the KQ Mobile App, select the Manage Booking option and update their contact details.
The airline said the move would enable passengers to receive the latest information on their flights, including any schedule changes.
Passengers urged to check flight status
The carrier apologised for the disruption, acknowledging the impact the delays could have on passengers’ travel plans.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this situation has caused to travel plans,” Kenya Airways said.
The airline said it was continuing to work with airport stakeholders as the situation developed, with priority given to maintaining safe flight operations while reducing delays.
Passengers requiring additional assistance have been advised to contact the Kenya Airways Customer Excellence team through its hotline on +254 711 024 747 or WhatsApp on +254 705 474 747.
Kenya Airways said it would continue providing updates as new developments emerge.
The latest disruption is likely to affect passengers travelling through JKIA, particularly those with connecting flights, as departure delays of more than three hours could have a knock-on effect on onward journeys.
The airline urged customers to remain patient and monitor official communication channels for the latest information on their flights.
Kenya Airways reiterated that the safety and comfort of passengers and crew remained its priority as it worked with relevant stakeholders to restore smoother operations at JKIA.
